A practical lesson plan for skin screening before barber services

Set one observable lesson outcome

A brief visual and verbal screen helps a barber decide whether a planned close-contact service can proceed safely. The goal is to notice relevant concerns, stay within scope and modify, postpone or refer when needed.

Write the outcome as something a trainer can see or hear. Avoid goals such as “understand it better”; name the movement, decision, sequence or finished feature the learner should reproduce.

Demonstrate the decision as well as the action

The trainer should name what they are looking at, which option they choose and how they will know when to stop. The learner then repeats the decision before copying the movement.

• Ask about current sensitivity and recent reactions.
• Observe the service area in appropriate light.
• Describe concerns neutrally without diagnosing.
• Escalate uncertainty to a supervisor or appropriate professional.

Watch specifically for Skipping the screen because the client is a regular.; Working over visibly broken or inflamed skin.; Offering a diagnosis or treatment claim.. Correct one cause at a time so the learner can connect the change with the result.

Close with evidence and a next action

Current public-health guidance and workplace procedures take priority; medical questions require a qualified health professional. End the lesson by recording one success, one priority and the exact condition for the next attempt.
