Choose a narrow practice target

Sharps safety depends on controlled assembly, use, immediate disposal and a rehearsed response if an incident occurs. The goal is to remove improvisation from every moment a blade is exposed.

Pick one element that can be observed in a short session. Keep the model, tool setting, view and success criterion as consistent as practical.

Run the core drill

Rehearse the full load, simulated use, unload and disposal sequence with a safe training substitute until every hand position is predictable.

Complete a baseline attempt, one corrected attempt and one repeat. Photograph or record only what is permitted and useful for comparison.

• Prepare the approved disposal container before opening a blade.
• Keep fingers away from the cutting edge during assembly.
• Do not leave an exposed sharp unattended.
• Dispose of single-use blades immediately through the approved process.

Add a constraint only after control

Once the basic sequence is repeatable, vary one condition such as viewing angle, timing, density or scenario. Avoid Carrying an exposed blade across the workspace.; Overfilling or poorly positioning the sharps container.; Trying to recap, bend or handle a used sharp unnecessarily..

If the outcome changes, identify which variable caused it before adding another challenge.

Debrief the evidence

Undertake sharp-tool work only with appropriate training and supervision, and follow incident procedures without delay.

Write one sentence for the plan, one for the observed result and one for the next attempt.

• The disposal route is ready before the sharp is exposed.
• No exposed blade is placed on a surface.
• The incident response can be stated without hesitation.
